Treasury Sets Series I Bond Rate at 5.51% Through April 2027
The U.S. Treasury Department has announced a new 5.51% rate for Series I savings bonds, effective for the next six months through April 2027.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has set the new composite rate for Series I savings bonds at 5.51%, a rate that will remain in effect for the next six months through April 2027, the agency announced.

The 5.51% annualized rate represents the composite yield, which combines a fixed rate that stays with the bond for its lifetime and an inflation adjustment component that resets each period. I bonds can be purchased electronically through the Treasury's TreasuryDirect platform, with individual investors limited to $10,000 in electronic purchases per calendar year. An additional $5,000 in paper I bonds may be acquired using a federal tax refund, bringing the maximum annual allotment per person to $15,000.
